The original Manix was approximately the size of the current Manix XL (almost 9\" overall) and utilized a sturdy back lock mechanism. To make the folder more carry able and user friendly, later versions reduced the size and eventually switched over to Spyderco's patented Ball Bearing lock. The choil on this mini-sized knife grants you a full 4-finger sized grip (at least, it does for my large-ish hands) and the negative blade angle is awesome for minimizing the wrist action needed for most cutting tasks. The basic explanation is that the blade almost points in a parallel direction to your arm when holding the knife in a conventional hammer grip, thus aligning the blade with your muscles and allowing for more comfortable and powerful cutting. This concept was also utilized by Massad Ayoob for his collaboration with Spyderco (though, for him it was more about thrusting than draw cutting) and many other great Ed Schempp designs. This is one awesome knife for opening boxes, or just a nice minimalist slim \u0026amp; light carry.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's cool that this is in SPY27, which was derived from VG-10 (the standard Japanese steel used in Seki City, originally created for fruit tree grafting). It seems a little poetic to me that this American steel made its way back to its ancestral homeland. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlso, you may have noticed that when closed, the knife looks practically symmetrical! This is completely intentional and it's what gives the knife it's name. The G-Clip is also great because unlike most mounting systems, it actually is a clip so you don't even need a belt to put it on. Instead, you just slide it onto whatever strap or pocket or the top of your pants that you prefer. It's also easy to reposition as desired, or removed entirely. It has a leaf spring serving as the locking mechanism and no other liners (similar to Para 3 LW or the BHQ exclusive Alu PM2). The skeletonized aluminum design is also quite visually stunning and feels surprisingly good in hand, certainly much much lighter than a standard shaman. I'm also quite glad that they priced it pretty fairly relative to the rest of their lineup.
