Designed by noted personal-defense trainer Michael Janich, the Yojimbo 2 is an evolved expression of his original Spyderco Yojimbo design, which pioneered the application of the Wharncliffe blade in tactical folders. The refined ergonomics of the Yojimbo 2 complement the natural contours of the hand, ensuring maximum surface contact and positive control. They also encourage a thumb-forward grip and make the 3-1/4-inch CPM S30V or SPY27 blade a natural extension of the hand.
The PlainEdge straight cutting edge of the hollow-ground blade offers extreme cutting performance by transferring power all the way to the tip and ensures improved point strength. Nested stainless steel liners provide structural strength and form the backbone of the knife's high-strength Compression Lock® mechanism.
Textured G-10 scales and a four-position clip guarantee a non-slip grip and rapid deployment from all carry positions.
Notes
The Yojimbo 2 is one of my all time favorite knives. Mike Janich, the designer and one of the legends of the knife industry, came up with the original concept in the early 2000s and the Yojimbo 1 was produced between 2004-2007. Since then, the design has evolved into what you see today - a utilitarian tool that excels at utility work while also being perfectly suited for self-defense applications.
If you're unfamiliar with the wharncliffe blade for EDC folding knives, check this video out!
This video really illustrated to me that when it comes to blades, form and function are inextricably linked. Each blade shape has their strengths and weaknesses and Mike helped me realize that for what I carry a knife for, wharncliffes are generally optimal. If you also mostly do "indoor" tasks (eg cutting cardboard or paper or using cutting mats) that can require a fair amount of precision, then the Yojimbo could be great for you. Also because the edge is completely straight and the blade is hollow ground, it's very easy to sharpen.
